NEILINGDING ISLAND AND FUTIAN NATURE RESERVE

Established in 1984. this is the smallest nationally owned nature reserve, covering an combined area ? of only 782. 2 hectares of Neilingding Island and Futian mangrove forest.

Neilingding Island lies between the coasts of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hongkong and Macao, being created specially to protect more than 300 rhesus macaques and other rare animals under key state protection: pangolin and python. With 447. 8 hectares in land area and 11 km coastline, the island has all the characteristics of a southern subtropical wet monsoon climate.

Futian mangrove forest covers 304. 4 hectares extending along coast to 11 km, situating on the northern coast at the Shenzhenwan. Reserve is set in the midst of coastal mangrove forest, which is under key state protection and has much of interest to the tourists. especially its 256 species of migratory birds.

The mangrove reserve aims to protect resources of these precious forest and at the same time expand them through artificial cultivation. The mangrove forests have gradually increased in numbers in coastal areas. forming long lines of dense thickets, and acting as a dike for protecting the banks aginst pounding waves.

Besides protecting natural ecosystems and providing habitats for rare flora and fauna , this Reserve also play an important role in conserving natural landscape. This role is becoming increasingly prominent with the development of tourism in China.
