YIWULU MOUNTAIN NATURE RESERVE

Established in 1981, the Yiwulii Mountain Nature Reserve¡ªa Green Pearl in Liaoxi Corridor, is located at the juncture of Benzhen County and Yi County in the west of Liaoning Province.

With its main peak Mount Wanghai towering 867 meters above sea level, the Reserve is located on the edge of the Yinshan Mountain Chain. The 11, 351 hectare area supports 786 species of higher plants.

As a representative tree in North China plant family, the Chinese pine is indigenous to the Yiwulu Mountain with such advantages as strong adaptability, drought¡ªendurance and fast¡ªgrowing. The weigela is seldom found in history, but is widely distributed in the Reserve. Other botanic residents include Northeast China ash, yellow pineapple, Chinese toon and shiny leaved yellow horn.

Statistics show that in the Reserve thrive 229 species of vertebrates. Among them 159 species are birds including 118 species of migrants. The great bustard, mandarin duck, crane, goshawk, cinereous vulture, golden eagle, etc. are under the state key protection.

As one of the ten famous mountains in the history, the Yiwulu Mountain houses many places of historic interests and scenic beauty.
