TIANMU MOUNTAIN NATURE RESERVE

Situated in the northeastern part of Zhejiang Province and set up in 1975, the Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve is an ancient rare plant treasure-house and is called an"ancient tree kingdom". Here vegetation grows well due to warm climate and plentiful rain and is not exposed to damage from glaciation in the Quaternary Period of the earth history, thus prominently indieating the ancient multiplicity of its flora zone system.

The 1,050 hectares Reserve possesses 2,139 species of wild animals and 2,160 species of higher plants including 37 species of what are named as "Tianmu" plants. There are up to 398 cryptomeria trees with more than 100 cm of diameter and 75. 46 cub. meters of the maximum volume for single tree. Famous as live fossil, the ginkgo trees have been found only in the wild planted status and distributed both in the zone of 300 to 1,100 meters above sea level and in the valleys of the Tianmu Mountain. Found also here is another ancient relic plant called golden larch, with a maximum single tree volume of over 40 cub meters and a height of 80 meters.

With over 2,000 years of religious history, the Tianmu Mountain is a famous Buddhism mountain in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China.

The Reserve is one of famous sightseeing places in China and then is an ideal place for scientific survey, education practice, sightseeing and tour.
