| Situated in the Shenhuwan Bay of Jinjiang City,
Fujian Province, the Shenhuwan Seabed Ancient Forest
Relics Nature Reserve was built up in 1992 with an area
of 3,100 hectares primarily for the protection of submarine
ancient forests such as oyster reefs and metamorphic
rocks. Such a kind of Nature Reserve is not only unique
in China, but also seldom in the world.
Near the Taiwan Straits, the Reserve is characterized
by the strange geographical structure, numerous places
of historic interest and scenic beauty, beautiful nature
scenery, and superior conditions of society, economy
and humanity. More than 20 oil China fir relics over
7,800 years' old were found. In addition, there are
t oyster reefs and diversified sea water ¡ª soaked metamorphic
rocks, exhibiting the unique and typical endless evolution
history of the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic and Cenozoic
Eras. The establishment of the Reserve |provides a reliable
scientific basis for researches into palaeooceanology,
palaeogeography, palaeometeorology, palaeobotany, geological
structure and sea level vertical movement of the Taiwan
Straits, geological hardened soil block movement of
the Pacific Ocean and overseas communication history
of the ancient Quanzhou Port.
