GUNIUJIANG NATURE RESERVE

Situated on the west side of famous Huangshan Mountain, the Guniujiang Nature Reserve was set up in 1988 with an area of 14,821 hectares. Inside the Reserve, there are abundant wild fauna and flora resources including 1,210 species of flora such as pteridophyte, gymnosperm and angiosperm. Among them the Chinese tuliptree, permanent petal vine, bacury and ginkgo are proprietary plants in China. There are also a lot of ornamental plants such as wood lotus, Huangshan lily, magnolia, Tianmu agar and various azaleas, amounting to more than 50 species.
The Reserve has a complete ecosystem with stable structure, providing a fine environment for wild animals. According to a preliminary survey, there are more than 50 species of mammals, 147 species of birds, over 30 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibians and 550 species of identified insects. Among them 29 species such as leopard, clouded leopard, mantjak, golden cat, tufted deer, Elliot's pheasant and pukras are under the key national protection.

Featuring a significant vertical spectrum of the climate and vegetation in the mountainous area, the Reserve is an ideal place for scientific researchers and also a beautiful, comfortable and quiet place for nature amateurs.
