FENGYANGMOUNTAIN
¡ªBAISHANZUNATURE RESERVE

Located at Longquan and Qingyuan Counties, Zhejiang Province , and built up in 1975 and 1985 respectively, the Fengyang Mountain Nature Reserve and the Baishanzu Nature Reserve were authorized by the State Council in 1985 to merge into the Fengyang Mountain ¡ª Baishanzu Nature Reserve occupying an area of 247,000 hectares and then becoming a cradle of ancient flora in the southern China. In the Reserve there are 7 kinds of flora with obvious vertical spectrum of vegetation.

The Baishanzu fir, an ancient relic plant lived exclusively in China, was found on the southern slope of 1.760 meter high above sea level of Baishanzu Mountain within a very small area where only 5 Baishanzu firs are living with maximum diameter of 40cm and maximum height of 11m, as well as minimum diameter of 9.1cm and minimum height of 5m for the single tree. Another concurrently preserved ancient plant ¡ª whitearil yew is a sort of bush conifer. In addition, there are other precious plants such as Chinese hemlock, Chinese tuliptree, ginkgo, bacury, Fujian cypress, Fujian nanmu, etc.

The Reserve also houses a variety of wild animals, of which leopard, clouded leopard, sika deer, rhesus monkey, stump¡ªtailed monkey, black bear, mantjak, otter and pangolin are under the key national protection.
