GOLDEN SEASHORE NATURE RESERVE

Golden Seashore Nature Reserve situates along the 30km coastline of Changli County at the northeastern part of Hebei Province, covering an area of 30,000 hectares. Opened in 1992, the Reserve preserves an ecosystem of seabeach.
When approaching the seashore-from the land, we often encounter an area comprising hillocks of sand before reaching the sloping beach. These Ito 2km wide sand dunes form a dramatic and colourful barrier between land and beach, at places reaching 20 to 30m into the air and taking sudden, startling shapes. The face which the sand dunes present to the open sea is a 30km long beach with gentle slope, loose sand, and warm shallow water, making it a rare resource of tourism. The yellow sand dunes earn for the Reserve its other name¡ª¡ªthe "Golden Seashore".

The Reserve is situated at the intersection of point of north-south and east-west migrating courses of birds. 168 species of sea gulls, wild ducks and sandpipers haunt the region. The aquatic animals comprise 53 species of planktonic copepods, 78 species of nektons and 150 species of benthos.

The living fossil Wenchang fish (Branchiostoma belcheri) is a typical chordate, a transitional species between invertebrate and vertebrate, being of great importance to the naturalist
