Daqinggou Nature Reserve is set up 1980 in Horqin Left
Rear Banner. At the southern part of Horqin desert popularly
referred to as the " 800 li of Big Desert"
lies a wonderful gully 24km long, 200m wide and over
50m deep, covering a total area of 8183 hectares.
Daqinggou Nature Reserve is a precious and mysterious
pearl in vast desert on our northern border. What a
sharp contrast between inside and the outside'£ĦIn the
gully there is a beautiful scene of luxuriant grass,
dense forests and clear water, whilst the external world
stretches for thousands li of deserts and sandy land.
Here the Dune-fixing Forest Experimental Station was
established in 1952, and the Daqinggou Nature Reserve
was set up by Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Daqinggou (Big Green Gully) is situated at the meeting
point for plants of Mongolia, Northeast and North China.
It Harbours 528 species of seed plants and ferns, including
Manchurian walnut, Manchurian ash, elm, Chinese linden,
Chinese toon. Among more than 200 species of medicinal
plants, milkvetch, fangfeng, dangshen, slender style
acanthoparax, Japanese honeysuckle and elevated gastrdia
are common.
The animals most frequently encountered are fox, wolf,
chipmunk, otter and hare.
